April Ross
April Ross has won more than one Olympic gold medal. Ross is among a few female players of beach volleyball who have achieved this feat. Alix Klineman is the newest Olympian and will join the team in Tokyo. Ross's goal is to win her first Olympic Gold. At 39 and has a long way to go, this could be her last chance. Her confidence is high, however. Ross said on NBC Boston: "If we do our best and even playing well I'm sure we'll be able to win gold." That's why I'm taking the chance also. Ross was born in 1982 and was raised within Costa Mesa California with her sister and parents, began participating in sports at the Newport Harbor High School. In addition to participating in a variety of sports, Ross also attended Newport Harbor High School. The prep sports she played included indoor volleyball as well as basketball as well as running and track. But she clearly was a cut above the rest in this latter game. Based on her biography, she was an outside blocker as well as a middle volleyball player during her high-school career. Gatorade Circle of Champions named her the National Player of 1999. Also, she won the 2000 Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. While Ross Klineman and Ross are in the spotlight from 2017 onward, the former was already a big-time participant on the beaches long before their pairing. In fact, she's won numerous events, and one was won by a legendary volleyball player. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 until 2013. Kessy was Ross's partner on the World Championships of 2009. The 2012 Olympic Games, they received the gold medal. They were beaten out for the gold medal by the legendary duo comprising Misty and Kerri Walsh (Jennings). Ross Jennings was May-Treanor's replacement when she retired. In 2016, the pair won bronze in the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Following high school, and for a few several years prior to hitting the sand as a pro Ross balled out for the USC Trojans as an collegiate. She had a great run through college. When she was a freshman at the school in 2000 she fought her way to Pac-10 and NCAA Freshman of the Year awards and earned an All-American. Additionally, she was one of the key players in helping the Trojans to make it to their way to the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a significant personal loss in her sophomore, but was still able to achieve the All-American award. Through her last two years within the team, she guided the Trojans to the summit netting consecutive national championships. Ross was an excellent volleyball player, winning the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the top female volleyball player in the NCAA. Ross majored in International Relations at USC. Margie Ross did not get to witness her daughter's climb to the beach volleyball spotlight. Margie, Ross's mother, passed away in 2001 when Ross was in the midst of being a USC sophomore. Her breast cancer had been diagnosed. But she still keeps her mother in her the heart. Margie is a beach lover as well as in everyday life, continues to inspire her.
