Taylor Swift may be the most unusual of pop stars. She was an artist who could effectively bridge the gap between pop and country music and conquer the world. Swift is shedding her roots in the country as if it were a second-skin showing herself to be the most savvy pop singer/songwriter of her time. Swift is able to tap into the current trend and turn it into her unique. These skills were evident on her early hits including the neo-tribute Tim McGraw but her second album, 2008's Fearless showed a writer discovering who she was and in the process finding the mass market. The album ended up with a lot of reach not just within the U.S. where it racked the record with six platinum singles, due to the Top Ten hits Love Story and the hit single You Belong with Me but throughout the world performing particularly well in the U.K. Canada and Australia. Swift's Speak Now album released two years ago, consolidated her prior success, and catapulted Swift into the spotlight. Swift's popularity grew over the course of her subsequent three albums: Red (2012) 1989 (2014) and Reputation (2017). Swift had now established herself in an industry she felt was hers to be. When she reduced her sound by releasing stripped-down albums like 2020, folklore and Evermore, she still remained in the top spot. This position was maintained with the re-recordings she had made from her earlier catalog as in Midnights which was her chart-topping synth heavy 2022 album.
